Shortly after midnight Friday Bend Police Officers, Deschutes County Sheriff’s Officers, and a Redmond Police Officer responded to 21027 Carl St. #1 regarding a burglary and theft in progress.
The investigation revealed property was removed from inside the residence at 21027 Carl St. #1 while the residence was occupied. The suspect also had entered two different vehicles at the location and was in one of the vehicles when a resident returned home. When this burglary occurred there were family members in the residence sleeping.
The suspect fled on foot from the residence. Redmond K-9 “Breck” was deployed to the last known area where the suspect was seen. The suspect was located by “Breck” about a half mile from the residence in an undeveloped rocky area.
Property from inside the residence was recovered near one of the vehicles in front 21027 Carl St. #1. A set of keys to one of the vehicles was removed from inside the residence and they were in the ignition of one of the victims parked vehicles. Property from 21027 Carl St. #1 was recovered in the area where Mendez was located.
The suspect was identified as Alonso Mendez. He was transported to the Deschutes County Jail and lodged on charges of Burglary I, Theft II, Unlawful Entry Into a Motor Vehicle X2, Attempted Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle, Criminal Trespass I.
