Redmond Firefighters Friday afternoon raced south of Redmond to a farm just off SW 46th on a report that sparks and embers from a seasonal field burn had been swept up in the wind and was igniting trees and posing a danger to nearby buildings and homes.
Firefighters chased the blaze on the ground and up into the trees, trying to keep up with the swirling embers rising in the air which were trying to find something else to burn. Eventually they doused it all.
A half-acre was blackened near the owner’s home as a reminder that weather forecasts have meaning. They’re real. Doing control burns on FORECASTED windy day is more than just playing with fire. It’s ILLEGAL and it can burn down your whole life and take a few of your neighboring properties with it.
Check and learn before you burn.
